VARSITY BOYS HEAD COACH

Rob Seipp

Coach Seipp played Soccer and Tennis for John Jay in the 1980's. He was a member of the Varsity Soccer Team in the Fall 1985 and 1986, captaining the team as a Senior. After graduating from John Jay, he went on to play Division 1 Soccer and Tennis at Iona College in the Fall of 1987. After transferring to Marist, Seipp began his coaching career. He coached the Boys and Girls Varsity Soccer Teams at Our Lady of Lourdes from 1990 - 1993. He then went back to Iona College to coach the Women's Team in 1994 and 1995.  After serving as an Assistant Coach with both the Marist College Men's and Women's Teams in 1996 and 1997, Seipp came back to John Jay to teach and coach in the Fall of 1998, where he has coached since. Coach Seipp has also coached the East Fishkill Strikers as they won 2 New York State Cup titles in 1996 and 1997. He has also coached in the New York State ODP program for 2 years and spent 5 years coaching the Hudson Valley Region in the Empire State Games.


Coach Seipp went through the National Coaching Schools of the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) beginning in 1990. He earned his NSCAA Advanced National Diploma in 1992 and his USSF 'A' License in 1993. Coach Seipp has had the wonderful opportunity to be trained as a coach by great United States National Team Coaches such as Anson Dorrance, Bob Gansler, Tony DiCicco, and Jay Miller. He has had the distinct pleasure of coaching several famous/professional soccer players including John Jay graduates Jeff Matteo and Jake Keegan, who were drafted by Major League Soccer Clubs Columbus Crew and Philadelphia Union, respectively. Also Edson Buddle, a member of the 2010 World Cup United States Men's National Team, and Rich Martinez, a member of the Puerto Rico National Team.

JV BOYS HEAD COACH

Greg Axelson

Coach Axelson was born and raised on Long Island where he attended West Babylon High School and played on the varsity soccer team since the 8th grade. Coach Axelson was a 3 year captain and led his team to the Section XI playoffs each season 2000-2005 where he was also granted All-League, All-Conference and All-County honors. Through his adolescent years, Coach Axelson played high-level premier and regional travel soccer for a well respected club in the Metropolitan area known as N.Y. Hota (Queens, NY). Coach Axelson played several years of Long Island Select, Eastern NYS ODP, and spent some time with a regional Westchester Flames team. As a sophomore in high school, Coach Axelson was selected for an exchange program with A.C. Milan Club (Serie A) where he spent weeks training in Italy under the strict direction of the club's trainers/coaches. Over the years he has been trained under direct guidance from several former professional athletes, National Team Coaches and MLS Coaches such as Alfonso Mondelo, Luis Mendoza, Anthony Roros and Kaz Gungor.


After graduating high school, he was recruited and initially started his college soccer career playing for East Stroudsburg University which is an NCAA Division II program in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) before switching over to their club team. Coach Axelson began his coaching career in the fall of 2008 when he was a Girls Varsity Assistant Coach for Stroudsburg High School in Monroe County, PA. In his inaugural coaching season, he helped lead the team to a district championship. Following his college graduation, Coach Axelson returned to his Alma Mater and was assigned the Varsity Girls Soccer Head Coach position in 2009. He led the girls program from 2009 through 2014 with a Class AA Section XI playoff appearance in each of his 6 seasons.


Coach Axelson moved to the Hudson Valley in the winter of 2015 when he accepted a Health Education teaching position for the Wappingers Central School District at John Jay High School. He was immediately brought onto the soccer coaching staff under Coach Seipp as the JV boys coach for the start of the 2015 season. He is currently still leading our JV team each season and is involved with camps, coaching and training teams locally through the East Fishkill Soccer Club.

VARSITY BOYS ASST. COACH

Brendan Horton

Coach Horton was a member of the John Jay Soccer Program from 1998 to 2001. After graduating from John Jay, he played Club Soccer at the University at Albany in 2002. While living in Albany, Coach Horton began his coaching career as an Assistant Coach at Guilderland High School, under the guidance of Mike Kinnally. During this time, Coach Horton went through the National Coaching Schools of the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) beginning in 2005. He earned his NSCAA Advanced Regional Diploma and Goalkeeping Level 1 and 2 Diplomas, as well as his USSF 'C' License in 2006. Beginning in 2005, Coach Horton became a staff member of Guilderland United Soccer Club (now FC Dutchmen Premier) coaching several premier teams from 2005 to 2007. He also coached in the CDYSL Eastern New York State ODP Program for two years during this time in the Capital District. Coach Horton was fortunate enough to be trained as a coach under fantastic Division 1 collegiate coaches such as Roy Pfeil and Johan Aarnio, Mike Kinnally, and Coach Seipp.


After returning to the Hudson Valley in 2007, Coach Horton became a teacher at Walter Panas High School, where he served as an Assistant and Head Coach of the Boys Varsity Soccer Program from 2010 to 2014. He has coached and trained several teams within the East Fishkill Soccer Club, in that time, in addition to running Goalkeeping clinics through the club. In 2015, Coach Horton joined the John Jay Boys Soccer coaching staff, where he has coached since. In 2022 Coach Horton served as the Goalkeeper Coach for the United Soccer League (USL) League 2 Hudson Valley Hammers, established by Wappingers Falls native Tyler Adams, in the 4th division of the US Soccer pyramid.
