OFF-SEASON

Winter Soccer

The primary focus of the Winter Soccer Program centers on nurturing the skills and mindset required to maintain ball possession adeptly. It aims to instill in aspiring John Jay Soccer players the proficiency in utilizing possession as a strategic tool to fluidly maneuver the ball across the field while evading opponents. Furthermore, the program aims to equip players with the ability to employ effective possession tactics to disrupt the opponent's defensive structure and create penetrative opportunities through deliberate and methodical build-up play. Ultimately, the program's goal is to cultivate players' capacity to dominate the game by emphasizing one-touch or two-touch soccer, enhancing passing precision in confined spaces, and fostering swift decision-making when under pressure in tight areas.

Summer Soccer

John Jay Soccer offers participation, to all rising 10th through 12th graders, in both Summer Training as well as Summer League Games. Training takes place at John Jay High School, and League Games take place at Lakeland High School and Ossining High School. Players who sign up may participate in all training sessions and are guaranteed to be selected to a roster for a minimum of three (3) Summer League Games. All players will receive a reversible John Jay Soccer pinnie, which should be worn to all training sessions and games.

Crossbar Academy

The John Jay Soccer Program wants players in games to want the ball, but to also recognize the opportunities when they can affect the game and the decisions, movements and positions needed to do so. Maximization of the time each player spends with a ball is key, as is creating the competitive environment to improve. Sessions will include both technical and tactical training, aerobic fitness and functional training, and small-sided games. It will be an intense program designed to help you be physically, mentally, technically, and tactically prepared for everything the high school preseason will throw your way. The John Jay Soccer Coaching Staff are excited to run these sessions and want everyone and anyone looking to get ready for the John Jay Soccer preseason to meet us on the field! Crossbar Academy is under the direction of John Jay Boys Varsity Soccer Head Coach, Rob Seipp, as well as other members of the John Jay Coaching Staff, and guest coaches.

Individual Training Challenge

The Individual Training Challenge is designed to help our players stay sharp and improve their skills through a series of ball mastery challenges. Players are provided with individual training videos to follow, focusing on key skills and techniques. By submitting videos of themselves completing these challenges, players not only track their progress but also have the opportunity to receive recognition and rewards for their dedication and hard work. Join us in elevating your game and showcasing your skills!

Speed & Agility Running Clinic

The John Jay Soccer Speed & Agility Running Clinic is aimed at enhancing players' running technique, preventing injuries, and amplifying their speed and agility under the guidance of John Jay Track & Field Coach, and former soccer player, Coach Brent DeVittorio, along with the John Jay Soccer Coaching Staff. This program is designed to empower our soccer athletes with the skills and biomechanical efficiency required to run with precision, reduce injury risks, and ultimately elevate their on-field performance.

Central to our approach is the goal of mitigating injury risks through the cultivation of proper running mechanics. The John Jay Soccer Program has been plagued by hamstring, calf, and quadricep injuries that can all be prevented through improved and proper running technique. The integration of Coach DeVittorio's initial sessions will enable our athletes to develop efficient and biomechanically sound running styles, reducing undue stress on muscles and joints. Through targeted drills and corrective exercises, players will not only enhance their speed but also learn to move with precision, stability, and reduced vulnerability to the aforementioned common soccer-related injuries.
