STATSports GPS TRACKERS
Beginning in Summer 2025, the John Jay Soccer Program will officially incorporate STATSports APEX GPS Trackers into both training sessions and matches. This groundbreaking technology—used by some of the world’s most elite soccer programs, the U.S. Men’s and Women’s National Teams, and countless NCAA Division I, II, and III schools—will now be a core part of how we monitor, evaluate, and develop our players.
The APEX GPS system offers unparalleled insight into player performance by collecting live data on metrics such as Total Distance Covered, Sprints and Top Speed, High-Intensity Efforts, Explosive Movements and Workload, and Heat Maps and Positional Tracking. This level of detail provides our coaching staff with critical information to shape training plans, make tactical adjustments, and monitor player readiness and recovery. More importantly, it empowers players with personalized data to set goals, track progress, and take ownership of their development.
In a competitive high school soccer environment like we have at John Jay and within Section 1, any edge matters. With these trackers, we can objectively measure training effort and match fitness, while players gain exposure to the same technology used at the college level. Additionally, we can reduce risk of injury by managing load and fatigue, while also tailoring tactical decisions based on measured performance. It also promotes accountability and transparency in training.
This technology will also play a vital role in helping our athletes stand out during the college recruitment process. Coaches at the next level increasingly look for data-driven insight into players’ physical profiles—and John Jay soccer players will now be equipped with that information.
Varsity players are expected to purchase and use a STATSports APEX GPS Tracker as part of their participation in the program at the Varsity level. This one-time purchase will provide players with a tracker they can continue to use year-round, both in-season and during off-season training. We understand that purchasing a tracker is a significant cost, and we do not want finances to be a barrier to participation. If this is cost-prohibitive for anyone, please know that we would be happy to work together to create a plan so that as many players as possible can have access to a tracker.
